How to Cast Spinning, Spincast, and Baitcasting Gear
The release timing and line control that change with each common reel type.

With the reel below the rod, hook the line with your index finger, open the bail, bring the rod back smoothly, then release the line as the rod moves toward the target. Close the bail by hand.
Spincast
Press and hold the thumb button during the back cast. Release it as the rod travels forward, then turn the handle to re-engage.
Baitcasting
Press the spool release, control the spool with your thumb, and release thumb pressure during the forward cast. Feather the spool and stop it before the lure lands to limit backlash.
